1st January 2008 - New Years Day in Egypt and the ideal place to celebrate it was Karnak Temple which is so connected with re-birth and new beginnings in Ancient Egypt that it seemed a good place to start a new year in a new country and the beginning of an amazing experience in Egypt. I have rarely seen the temple so quiet and it was nice to have it almost to ourselves and able to sit and relax and watch the world go by. The Hypostyle Hall was particularly special and I always find this an amazing experience but today was so special as the usual tour groups and tour-guides shouting to make themselves heard above the noise were not there and it was abnormally quiet and peaceful.

2nd January 2008 - A New Year and a new flat! We only moved upstairs in the same building but it is a much better flat for only a little more money. A bit higher so better views but more steps to get there.
5th January 2008 - The pictures below are just some of the many Christmas lights in Luxor and although a predominantly Muslim country is was nice to see Xmas decorations which are I am sure are partly for the tourists but also for Coptic Christmas on 7th January.
January 2008 - There were children from Sunshine in hospital so we helped out by working a few night shifts - some nights there were three children and other nights four so with the two of us it was not too bad but any more children and I think we might have struggled if they had all woken at once.
January 2008 - As well as night shifts at the hospital we started work at Sunshine with Jo beginning with teaching sessions for the staff and I was working with the oldest boys on the computers.
January 2008 - The work on the Sunshine Village continues and as can be seen in the picture it still is very much like a building site and I cant see how it will be ready for the end of March.
